Founded by Frank, MoorNews is a mobile platform for reading and following African news across categories like sports, finance, entrepreneurship, and more. The app personalizes the experience with likes, favorites, and targeted push notifications to keep users updated on topics they care about.
African News consumption is fragmented across sources and formats. MoorNews aimed to centralize trusted feeds, personalize content, and deliver timely notifications—while keeping the app lightweight for a broad range of devices and networks, and enabling responsible monetization.
The product needed real-time content ingestion with de-duplication, smooth client-side state for likes/favorites, intuitive navigation across diverse categories, and push notifications that are timely yet battery-friendly. All of this had to scale reliably without slowing the user experience.
1. Design a clear, fast mobile UX with category browsing and article detail pages.
2. Implement .NET/C# microservices (iDesign) for Content, Users/Prefs, Notifications, and Monetization.
3. Build ingestion with Azure Functions for near-real-time updates and scheduling.
4. Provide indexed SQL search, advanced filtering, and offline-friendly caching.
5. Integrate FCM/APNs for opt-in topic notifications tuned to user preferences.
